There's just one twist: it's not a film script. Fisher wrote "Extant" as a TV pilot. It's a one-hour sci-fi drama about John and Molly Watts and their son, a human-like robot named Ethan. Molly, the space-traveling wife, is also pregnant with a baby that is part human and part alien. The family intrigue deepens in subsequent episodes. Multiple agencies sought to sign the writer after reading the script, and WME won out. ...

How Netflix's 'Arrested Development,' 'House of Cards' are crashing the Emmys

By Steve Pond LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Primetime television shows are eligible for the Primetime Emmy Awards, of course. So are programs that don't air during primetime, and commercials, and webisodes and apps, and Netflix's "House of Cards" and "Arrested Development" which are not by most standard definitions a television series. Just as the face of television has morphed over the past decade, so has the face of the Emmy Awards. ... Google Advertising Dallas, Texas
'Falling Skies' Star Noah Wyle on Showrunner's Departure: 'It's a Tough One'

By Jethro Nededog LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - It came as a surprise to the "Falling Skies" fandom (and some within TNT) when news that the series' showrunner, Remi Aubuchon, had resigned ahead of Season 3's June 9 premiere date. Aubuchon decided to leave the show after two seasons to pursue his dream of writing a science fiction novel - something that he would be unable to do while on the very challenging show. "This is a very difficult show to work on," Aubuchon admitted to TheWrap. "And the truth is I did feel burnt out after this season. ... Google Advertising Dallas, Texas

Sofia Vergara from the TV comedy Modern Family holds her award backstage at the 19th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los AngelesBy Steve Pond LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - It was an adventure that somehow turned into a career. When Sofia Vergara got a call to audition for a Barry Sonnenfeld movie called "Big Trouble" back in 2001, the 29-year-old Colombian wasn't an aspiring actress. She was a TV hostess on the Spanish-language Univision network, a former dental student who'd fallen into modeling and then hosting for the Latin market. She had dreams of fame and fortune, to be sure, but most of them didn't focus on the United States, and they certainly didn't include acting. ...
